A project of the Maine Community Foundation and the Maine Philanthropy Center
The 12 Rivers Conservation Collaborative is seeking to accelerate land protection in midcoast Maine by aggregating resources and conservation strategies into a single effort. Its plan includes outreach efforts to a new audience of landowners and stakeholders and funding appraisal costs for landowners considering permanent protection of their undeveloped lands.
By targeting conservation at a regional scale the collaborative hopes to attract new funders, economize its operations, have a larger impact, and increase support of conservation efforts in the 12 rivers region.
This project will preserve Maine’s Quality of Place by conserving wildlife habitat while promoting sustainable forestry and channeling future growth. 12 Rivers is seeking to tap into the budding “aggregation” efforts that are being replicated across New England. So while not unique, the collaborative is clearly in the forefront of the effort in Maine and New England and is a leader in creating a coalition of multiple land trusts in Maine to do such a project.
